General procedure: To a solution of the corresponding pyrrole or indole derivative (10 mmol) in MeCN (30 ml) was added sodium hydroxide (2.00 g, 50 mmol) and tetrabutylamonium hydrogen sulfate (0.17 g, 0.5 mmol). The mixture was poured into water (100 ml), extracted with diethyl ether, dried under MgSO4, and concentrated under reduced pressure to give a crude product. The crude was then purified by flash column chromatography on silica gel (eluted with petroleum ether / ethyl acetate=1 : 1) to give the pure product.
