The reaction was stirred under CO (50 psi) for 16 hours at 80 C, at which point the desired product was observed by LCMS. The reaction mixture was diluted with EtOH (20 mL), and filtered through a Celite pad. The filtrate was concentrated. The residue was purified by flash chromatography on silica gel (EtOAc in PE = 0% ~ 5%) to afford compound 12-b (2.40 g, 8.93 mmol) as an oil. 1H NMR (400MHz, CDC13) deltaEta = 7.66 – 7.59 (m, 1H), 7.42 (d, 1H), 7.24 – 7.19 (m, 1H), 4.36 (q, 2H), 1.35 (t, 3H).
