The current report represents a transition-metal-free synthesis of oxazoline and isoxazoline derivatives by a tandem electro-oxidative chalcogenation-cyclization process. Both C-Se and C-S bond-forming protocols were developed without using any external oxidant and the reaction was performed at room temperature, open to the air. Using this methodology, 29 substituted oxazoline and 16 substituted isoxazoline derivatives were synthesized with up to 91% isolated yield.

Text. A general method for the synthesis of structural diversity and complexity of azepines from aldimine esters and beta ‘-acetoxy allenoates is reported. Under phosphine catalysis, a [4+3] cycloaddition for the formation of 1,3-dihydro-2H-azepine-2,2,4-tricarboxylates was achieved with broad substrate scope under mild reactions. A switchable process was given and a variety of important 2,3-dihydrochromeno[4,3-b]azepin-6(1H)-ones were selectively formed when the reaction was performed in the presence of Cs2CO3 and PPh3, which involved an intramolecular ester group migration and subsequent lactonization of 1,3-dihydro-2H-azepine-2,2,4-tricarboxylates. Besides easy handle process, high synthetic value of resulting products, it is worth to note that this work showed the novel example of 1,5-ethoxycarbonyl migration.

Dual effects of cathodic dechlorination and oxidative decomposition of 2,4-dichlorobenzoic acid (2,4-DCBA) can be achieved using electrochemical reduction-oxidation technology. The removal efficiency was improved by optimizing the experimental conditions affecting electrode activity and contaminant degradation. The 2,4-DCBA removal efficiency reached 90.8% at a current density at 50 mA.cm(-2), initial pH of 5, and sodium sulfate concentration of 0.05 mol.L-1, with a 2,4-DCBA concentration of 20 mg.L-1. Furthermore, a good total organic carbon removal efficiency of 81.6% was achieved in the electrocatalytic reduction and oxidation process, with the present system retaining high stability after many experiment cycles. The reaction mechanism under different conditions is discussed, which provides new approaches to the degradation of chlorinated organic compounds.

A simple, efficient, and metal-free methodology for the preparation of 2-mercaptobenzothiazole and derivatives in excellent yields via microwave-assisted pathway is reported. Our condition provides a convenient protocol for the synthesis of a diverse collection of 2-mercaptobenzothiazoles and 6-(4-substituted-1H-1,2,3-triazol-1-yl)-2-mercaptobenzothiazoles with a very simple purification process. Copper (II) immobilized on L-arginine-beta-cyclodextrin-functionalized magnetite nanoparticles (nano-Fe3O4@L-arginine-CD-Cu(II)) were successfully synthesized and fully characterized using FT-IR, XRD, SEM, EDX, ICP, TGA and VSM techniques. The catalytic activity of these magnetically retrievable nanoparticles was evaluated in the direct oxidation of primary alcohols and benzyl halides to acids in neat conditions that was observed to proceed well and products were obtained in good yields. Type I Interferon (IFN) signaling plays an important role in the immune defense system against virus infection and in the innate immune response, thus IFNs are widely used as anti-viral agents and treatment for immune disorder or cancer. However, there is a growing demand for novel small-molecule IFN inducer due to tolerance, toxicity, or short duration of action following direct administration of IFNs. In this study, we assessed arylpiperazine (ARP) as a new core skeleton of IFN inducer. To investigate structure-activity relationship, we designed and synthesized a series of ARP analogues and evaluated the ability to stimulate IFN response in THP-1 human monocyte cells. Compound 5i was identified as a potent type I IFN inducer as it significantly increased cytokine secretion and increased expression of various IFN-stimulating genes which are representative biomarkers of type I IFN pathway. Our results suggested a beneficial therapeutic potential of 5i as an anti-viral agent.

SRC is a major regulator of many signaling pathways and contributes to cancer development. However, development of a selective SRC inhibitor has been challenging, and FDA-approved SRC inhibitors, dasatinib and bosutinib, are multitargeted kinase inhibitors. Here, we describe our efforts to develop a selective SRC covalent inhibitor by targeting cysteine 277 on the P-loop of SRC. Using a promiscuous covalent kinase inhibitor (CKI) SM1-71 as a starting point, we developed covalent inhibitor 15a, which discriminates SRC from other covalent targets of SM1-71 including TAK1 and FGFR1. As an irreversible covalent inhibitor, compound 15a exhibited sustained inhibition of SRC signaling both in vitro and in vivo. Moreover, 15a exhibited potent antiproliferative effects in nonsmall cell lung cancer cell lines harboring SRC activation, thus providing evidence that this approach may be promising for further drug development efforts.

A strategy involving bimetallic catalysis with a combination of Cp*Co(CO)I-2 and Cu(OAc)(2) was used for performing Buchwald-type C-N coupling reactions of aryl chlorides with amines. The reactions proceeded at 100 degrees C to produce excellent yields of many of the desired C-N coupled products, in 4 h, under aerobic reaction conditions. The reactions were shown to run under base-free and solvent-free conditions, enabling this strategy to work efficiently for electron-withdrawing and base-sensitive functionalities. The presented methodology was found to be equally efficient for electron-donating functionalities as well as for primary (1 degrees) and secondary (2 degrees) aromatic and aliphatic amines. Moreover, the products were easily separated through the extractions of the organic aqueous layer, with this process chromatographic separations is not required.

Organic air pollutants have considerable influence particularly on atmospheric chemistry, compared to other air pollutants. Traffic is one of the major sources of air pollutants occurred in Canakkale atmosphere by both remarkable road and marine traffic loads around the harbors. The aims of this study were finding the daily, week/weekend, and spatial variations of VOC at multiple sampling points of Canakkale and Kilitbahir. In this study, active air samples were collected from the major roads of Kilitbahir and Canakkale Harbors during rush hours and off-peak in 2018 summer. According to the measurement results, average levels of total volatile organic compounds (TVOC) were around 129 mu g/m(3) in Canakkale and 93 mu g/m(3) in Kilitbahir. Toluene was the most abundant compound. Average B: T: E: X ratio was calculated as 2.4:7.0:1:5.5 in Canakkale and 3.2:7.6:1:5.2 in Kilitbahir. According to the sampling points of both locations, levels of TVOC, benzene, toluene, and m,p-xylene in Canakkale and toluene levels in Kilitbahir showed statistically significant differences (p < 0.05). Also, benzene, which was already classified as a human carcinogen, varied diurnally in Kilitbahir (p < 0.05). Toluene levels varied between week and weekend days (p < 0.05). Moreover, measured VOC levels were compared with air quality monitoring station (AQMS) data and meteorological parameters. TVOC levels showed positive correlations with SO2 and PM10 (p < 0.05). Furthermore, a multivariate factor analysis applied to data set including VOC measurements, AQMS data, and meteorological parameters implied that traffic is the predominant factor influencing the air quality around the study sites.
