Chlorides are formed in higher yields than bromides. The most generally useful and readily obtainable reactants were arylmercuric halides, with lithium palladium chloride as the Group VIII metal compound Since only catalytic amounts of the palladium salt are required, this reaction provides a convenient method for introducing 2-haloethyl group into aromatic systems.
