Ionic liquid containing various anions or cations was synthesized. The catalytic performance and related reaction conditions of the oligomerization of isobutene catalyzed by ionic liquid were investigated in an autoclave. The exptl. results indicated that ionic liquid synthesized by anhydrous FeCl3 and triethylamine hydrochloride could effectively catalyze oligomerization and had higher selectivity. The type of anion had important influence on activity and selectivity of the products, and the structure of cation also had important influence on activity. The test result showed that the product was the mixture of dimer, trimer, tetramer and pentamer without crackate. Under the reaction conditions of temperature 40 °C, reaction time 30 min, ionic liquid to olefin ratio 1.2 with 200 mL n-hexane as diluent, the conversion of isobutene reached 85%, and the concentration of dimer and trimer in oligomer was 22.87% and 57.43% resp.
