The mechanisms and kinetics of condensation polymerization of dialkyldichlorosilanes were studied. The reactivities of the monomers were different under either concurrent or consecutive monomer addition Block copolymers were formed by sequential addition of monomers to polymer systems. Relative rates of monomer consumption were MePhSiCl2 > hexylmethyldichlorosilane > Me2SiCl2 >> vinylmethyldichlorosilane; relative rates of monomer consumption during copolymerization were in a different order. General schemes were suggested for the reaction pathways, but the kinetics of the reaction were very complex; a kinetic scheme could not be derived.
