Treatment of RCH₂CH₂SiMeCl₂ [R = (CH₂)_nH, n = 0, 1-4] with K/Na (7:1) in a tubular continuous reactor at 300-340° and 0.1-1.0 mm gave, after trapping of the products in N(l) followed by gas chromatog-mass spectrometric identification, 30-50% RCH:CH₂. A mechanism involving intramol. β-attack by silylene (RCH₂CH₂SiMe) to give a 3-membered ring and subsequent elimination of the silylene group was proposed.
