An efficient radical chlorosulfonylation of allenes was disclosed and vinylsulfones were prepared smoothly under mild conditions. By using sodium sulfinates as radical precursors, iron(III) chloride hexahydrate (FeCl3.6H2O) as oxidant and chloride source, allenes were converted into (E)-α-chloromethyl vinylsulfones I [R = Me, Ph, 4-FC6H4, etc., R1 = Ph, R2 = H, X = Cl, Br; R = Ph, R1 = 2-MeC6H4, 4-FC6H4, 4-ClC6H4, etc., R2 = H, Me, X = Cl] via regioselective 1,2-radical difunctionalization process in moderate to good yields.
