The combination of applying KCl instead of NaCl together with phosphorous limitation significantly increased P(3HB) productivity to 0.25 g L-1 h(-1) compared to 0.09 g L-1 h(-1). It can be concluded that the effective utilization of sucrose as a carbon source requires a combination of high nitrogen and low phosphorous concentration and a salt content of 0.6 g L-1 KCl for P(3HB) production with B. megaterium uyuni S29.

Moreover, due to the ionic property of DES, the hybrid hydrogels also present the thermal-depending conductivity as well as sensitive deformation response, which can be used as a smart switch in a circuit or a sensing element with environmental response ability. The cost-effective preparation and the attractive performance of the DES-doped hydrogels offer a new avenue to construct multi-functional materials.

Among them, pervaporation has advantages in terms of selectivity in addition to low working pressure, which can prevent clogging problems. Polysulfone and polyurethane have complementary characteristics and are interesting in the context of membranes for industrial applications. In this sense, the aim of this work was to prepare and characterize polysulfone/polyurethane-based membranes and tested them with a simulated wastewater containing the reactive black dye and sodium chloride by pervaporation. In their manufacture, thermal treatment (at 60 degrees C) and photo-radiation treatment (using ultraviolet light) were also applied. The characterizations were performed using different analytical tools. In general, it was possible to verify that all membranes have a dense layer. The thermal analysis allowed to define that the indicated working temperature is below 50 degrees C. With respect to the simulated wastewater treatment, all membranes reached 100% selectivity. Concerning the saline solution, the mean selectivity was around 98.5%. Moreover, the permeate flow values were within the range presented by commercial membranes ranging from 1.6 to 2.4 kg m(-2) h(-1). Although for the photoirradiated membranes the photo-graft reaction has occurred, among all membranes, the blend without any treatment stood out from the others, presenting the highest permeate flow of the simulated wastewater. Finally, the results reveal that these membranes are capable of recovering wastewater from textile processes, in addition to having the potential to remove salts from water through the pervaporation process.

Finding a suitable method for estimating soil and crop specific potassium (K) bioavailability under variable range of soil fertility has been a mighty challenge. To undermine this, a field experiment was conducted under varying levels of fertilizer application on pre-established fertility gradient strips in the Indo-Gangetic plains of West Bengal, India for predicting crop response and to assess the K availability in winter growing broccoli by employing six acclaimed chemical extractants viz. ammonium bicarbonate-diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid (AB-DTPA), calcium chloride (CaCl2), Kelowna, Mehlich-III, ammonium acetate (NH4OAc), and sodium tetraphenylborate (NaTPB4). The availability study of K followed the pattern as, CaCl2 < AB-DTPA < Kelowna < NH4OAc < Mehlich-III < sodium tetraphenylborate (NaTPB4). A higher extractability of K was envisaged under the conjoint application of higher doses of K fertilizers along with the organics. Among the extractants, NaTPB4 showed the highest correlation sum (3.98) and also yielded a significant relationship with plant tissue K concentration (0.858) and uptake (0.715). The NaTPB4, Mehlich-III, and NH4OAc extractants were found to be significantly related to most of plant indices. The Euclidean distance based cluster analysis and linear regression study further proved the relatively higher efficiency of NaTPB4 extractant followed by Mehlich-III and NH4OAc to estimate plant K response in broccoli under the Gangetic alluvial soils of West Bengal, India. Here, using a synthetic single-domain antibody (sybody) and serial synchrotron crystallography, we have determined the structure of GlyT1 in complex with a benzoylpiperazine chemotype inhibitor at 3.4 angstrom resolution. We find that the inhibitor locks GlyT1 in an inward-open conformation and binds at the intracellular gate of the release pathway, overlapping with the glycine-release site. The inhibitor is likely to reach GlyT1 from the cytoplasmic leaflet of the plasma membrane. Our results define the mechanism of inhibition and enable the rational design of new, clinically efficacious GlyT1 inhibitors.

Further, composite fabrication switched the major degradative pathway from radical-induced oxidation to mediated electron transfer, as determined from the effects of methanol and chloride, formaldehyde and bromate formation yields, reactivity toward multiple organics, and electron paramagnetic resonance spectral features. The protective carbon shells enabled pH-insensitive peroxymonosulfate activation, prevented metal ion leaching, and alleviated catalyst deactivation.

Ligand dependent magnetism of the J(eff)=3/2 Mott insulator Cs2MX6 (M = Ta, Nb, X = Br, Cl)

On the other hand, the effective magnetic moment of Cs2NbBr6 is 0.7 mu(B) and is substantially smaller than 1.0 mu(B) in Cs2NbCl6. On cooling, successive structural and magnetic phase transitions accompanying the release of electronic entropy approximately Rln 4 in total as expected for the J(eff) = 3/2 state are observed. The type of the ligand changes the temperature dependence of magnetic susceptibility at low temperature as well as its magnitude. The present work features on the investigation of interfacial heat transfer during sodium alginate drop impact on a heated calcium chloride liquid pool. The liquid pool has been heated at different temperatures varying from 20 degrees C to 70 degrees C. The drop chemically reacts at the interface and calcium alginate gel starts to form which has been instantaneously captured in a high-speed camera. A mathematical model on crater dynamics has been presented to determine the heat transfer coefficient and amount of interfacial heat transfer during the chemical reaction. Now, drop levitation over the vapour layer generated from the evaporation of liquid pool is defined as Leidenfrost pool Effect. This is characterized from the heat transfer at the crater initiation stage and accumulated vapour layer thickness, vapour pressure developed. The release of drop liquid is aided by the surface tension difference between drop and pool at the interface and it is defined as thermal Marangoni Effect. It has been characterized from the variation of Marangoni pressure with temperature which tends to drain away accumulated vapour layer. A critical liquid pool temperature has been obtained when Leidenfrost vapour pressure dominates over Marangoni pressure and resists the drop release during the gel initial regime. The dynamics of calcium alginate gelation is governed by intricate interplay between thermal Marangoni effect and Leidenfrost pool effect with its effect on initial gelation time and total gelation time.
