In this work, a transition-metal free approach for the construction of primary aromatic amines R/R1NH2 (R = 4-chlorophenyl, 2H-1,3-benzodioxol-5-yl, naphthalen-2-yl, etc.)/(R1 = Ph, 4-methylphenyl, 4-hydroxyphenyl, 4-chlorophenyl, 2-cyanophenyl) from aryl boronic acids RB(OH)2 and esters R1Bpin with N-Boc-O-tosylhydroxylamine as an amine surrogate was reported. Bench stable TsONHBoc is easy to use and it produces a non-interfering water-soluble byproduct. The protocol is operative for both electron-rich and electron-deficient aryl boronic acids under acidic conditions, wherein, the former arenes affords a better yield of the desired product. Even, sterically hindered and halogenated substrates are easily amenable under this reaction condition. The current protocol can be scaled up to produce gram-scale primary aromatic amines.

A series of 5,8-disubstituted tetrahydroisoquinolines e.g., 2-((5-(4-chlorophenyl)pyridin-2-yl)methyl)-8-(4-methylpiperazin-1-yl)-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinoline were shown to be effective inhibitors of M. tb in culture and modest inhibitors of M. tb ATP synthase. There was a broad general trend of improved potency with higher lipophilicity. Large substituents (e.g., Bn) at the tetrahydroquinoline 5-position were well-tolerated, while N-methylpiperazine was the preferred 8-substituent. Structure-activity relationships for 7-linked side chains showed that the nature of the 7-linking group was important; -CO- and -COCH2– linkers were less effective than -CH2– or -CONH- ones. This suggests that the positioning of a terminal aromatic ring is important for target binding. Selected compounds showed much faster rates of microsomal clearance than the clin. Two series of silafluorene based copolymers containing a small molar fraction (1%-3%) of thiophene derivatives moieties were synthesized with Yamamoto coupling reaction: poly {9,9-dihexyl-3,6-silafluorene-co-[2,5-di(phenylene-4-yl)-thiophene]} (PSiF-DPT) and poly {9,9-dihexyl-3,6-silafluorene-co-[2,5-di-((2-methylphenylene)-4-yl)-thiophene]} (PSiF-DMPT). These copolymers were characterized via UV-Vis absorption spectra and photoluminescence spectra. Polymer light-emitting diodes (PLED) were fabricated to investigate these electroluminescent properties. It was found that the thiophene derivatives moieties became the efficient blue emitter via efficient energy transfer from the polysilafluorene segments. With the decrease of the coplanarity of thiophene derivatives or its feed ratio, the PL and EL spectra can be blue shifted. The color purity can be adjusted to CIE (0.19, 0.16) with a EL quantum efficiency of 0.46%.
