Here, we show that molecular N-2 was efficiently captured by organic arylium cations in a well-defined manner at ambient pressure and temperature, which was monitored by on-line mass spectrometry analysis. A kinetic picture was proposed to disclose the principle of the ion-molecule reaction behavior for exclusive aryldiazonium production. The observation has an implication for direct nitrogen fixation into an organic framework via the intermediacy of such cationic species.

The development of highly active and reusable supported catalysts for Suzuki-Miyaura coupling and catalytic C-H arylation is important for fundamental and applied chemistry, with these reactions being used to produce medical compounds and functional materials. Herein, we found that a mesoporous composite made of a linear poly(4-vinylpyridine) and tetrachloropalladate acted as a dual-mode catalyst for a variety of cross-coupling reactions, with both Pd nanoparticles and a Pd complex catalyst being observed under different conditions. The polyvinylpyridine-palladium composite1was readily prepared via the molecular convolution of poly(4-vinylpyridine) and sodium tetrachloropalladate to provide a hardly soluble polymer-metal composite. The Suzuki-Miyaura coupling and the C-H arylation of aryl chlorides and bromides with arylboronic acids, thiophenes, furans, benzene, and anisole proceeded in the presence of 0.004 mol% (40 mol ppm) to 1 mol% Pd of1to afford the corresponding coupling products in high yields. Furthermore, the catalyst was reused without an appreciable loss of activity. Pharmaceutical compounds and functional materials were synthesized via the coupling reactions. N(2)gas adsorption/desorption analysis indicated that the catalyst had a mesoporous nature, which played a crucial role in the catalysis. In the Suzuki-Miyaura couplings,in situgenerated palladium nanoparticles in the polymer matrix were catalytically active, while a polymeric Pd(II) complex was crucial in the C-H arylations. These catalytic species were investigated via XAFS, XPS, far-infrared absorption, and Raman spectroscopies, as well as DFT calculations.

A bisoxazoline-derived NHC known as IBiox-6 reacted smoothly with Ni[P(OEt)(3)](2)Br-2 and Ni(PPh3)(2)Br-2 to give the respective heteroleptic Ni(II) complexes Ni(IBiox-6)[P(OEt)(3)]Br-2 (1) and Ni(IBiox-6)(PPh3)Br-2 (2) in yields of 60% and 71%. Their crystal structures were characterized to reveal a rare cis disposition of the IBiox-6 ligand to the phosphite ligand in 1, while 2 possessed the more common trans configuration. Both complexes catalyzed the cross-electrophile coupling of benzyl chlorides with aryl chlorides and fluorides in the presence of Mg turnings at 50 degrees C via a real one-pot procedure, featuring no requirement for temperature variation or portionwise addition of any coupling partner. In particular, complex 1 showed a better balance between the catalytic activity and selectivity. The scope of the procedure catalyzed by 1 and Mg turnings was investigated, providing a highly selective, simple, and practical approach to the synthesis of diarylmethanes with high steric hindrance and various functional groups, including oligo-diarylmethane with asymmetric structures.

Organic air pollutants have considerable influence particularly on atmospheric chemistry, compared to other air pollutants. Traffic is one of the major sources of air pollutants occurred in Canakkale atmosphere by both remarkable road and marine traffic loads around the harbors. The aims of this study were finding the daily, week/weekend, and spatial variations of VOC at multiple sampling points of Canakkale and Kilitbahir. In this study, active air samples were collected from the major roads of Kilitbahir and Canakkale Harbors during rush hours and off-peak in 2018 summer. According to the measurement results, average levels of total volatile organic compounds (TVOC) were around 129 mu g/m(3) in Canakkale and 93 mu g/m(3) in Kilitbahir. Toluene was the most abundant compound. Average B: T: E: X ratio was calculated as 2.4:7.0:1:5.5 in Canakkale and 3.2:7.6:1:5.2 in Kilitbahir. According to the sampling points of both locations, levels of TVOC, benzene, toluene, and m,p-xylene in Canakkale and toluene levels in Kilitbahir showed statistically significant differences (p < 0.05). Also, benzene, which was already classified as a human carcinogen, varied diurnally in Kilitbahir (p < 0.05). Toluene levels varied between week and weekend days (p < 0.05). Moreover, measured VOC levels were compared with air quality monitoring station (AQMS) data and meteorological parameters. TVOC levels showed positive correlations with SO2 and PM10 (p < 0.05). Furthermore, a multivariate factor analysis applied to data set including VOC measurements, AQMS data, and meteorological parameters implied that traffic is the predominant factor influencing the air quality around the study sites. Simple expressions are presented to determine if a binary system will exhibit a minimum or maximum boiling azeotrope using conventional free energy calculations using molecular simulation or electronic structure calculations in a continuum solvent. The expressions compare the solvation free energy of each component at infinite dilution relative to itself, requiring four total solvation free energy calculations per binary system. The solvation free energies can be related to intermolecular interactions and, therefore, shed insight into why an azeotrope occurs. The application of the expressions is demonstrated for 2366 binary systems using solvation free energies computed using electronic structure calculations in the SM12, SM8, and SMD universal solvent models. The overall success rate for predicting the correct phase behavior was 0.718, 0.711, and 0.685 for SM12, SM8, and SMD, respectively.

This study describes the first palladium-catalyzed, site-selective alpha- and gamma-arylation of alpha,beta-unsaturated ketones with (hetero)aryl halides. A wide range of hetero(aryl)halides coupled with alpha,beta-unsaturated ketones, and transformation into the arylated products proceeded with excellent to good yields. The site selectivity of the reaction is switchable by simply changing the phosphine ligand to access either alpha-arylated or gamma-arylated products in good to excellent yields by using a low catalyst loading, and the method demonstrates good functional-group compatibility.

We herein report the Et3N catalyzed sp(3) C-H bond functionalization of methyl arenes with active methylene compounds under solvent-free condition using TBHP as an oxidant. These reactions are exclusively enabled by TBHP. A new synthetic method toward direct C-N bond formation through saturated C-H amination of benzylic hydrocarbons and inactive aliphatic alkanes with primary aromatic amines under an inexpensive catalyst/oxidant (Cu/DTBP) system has been developed. Both aminopyridines and anilines could react smoothly with primary and secondary benzylic C-H substrates or cyclohexane to form the corresponding aromatic secondary amines in moderate to good yields. This protocol has the advantages of wide functional group tolerance and use of readily available raw materials.

This paper demonstrates a selective, mild approach to Ullmann amination of aryl halides to synthesize N-alkylated derivatives of epsilon-caprolactam. The synthetic route involves an in-situ ring-opening of 1,8-diazabicyclo[5.4.0]undec-8-ene (DBU) followed by concurrent arylation with aryl halides in the presence of copper iodide as a catalyst under ligand-free conditions. This method provides a new entry to a wide variety of epsilon-caprolactam derivatives in good to excellent yields in a single synthetic sequence. Similarly, other bicyclic amidines such as 1, 5-diazabicyclo-[4.3.0]non-5-ene (DBN), and 1,5,7 triazabicyclo[4.4.0] dec-5-ene (TBD) also showed good to very high reactivity. Azepan-2-one, or Caprolactam, is an important synthon in polymer chemistry and has a global demand as it is employed to make Nylon 6 filament, fiber, and plastics.([1]) The global caprolactam market size is expected to expand for the growing textile industry with rising demand for plastics in the construction of automotive, electrical, and electronic sectors. Here, we report a class of ligands based on oxalohydrazide cores and N-amino pyrrole and N-amino indole units that generates long-lived copper catalysts for couplings that form the C-O bonds in biaryl ethers. These Cu-catalyzed coupling of phenols with aryl bromides occurred with turnovers up to 8000, a value which is nearly two orders of magnitude higher than those of prior couplings to form biaryl ethers and nearly an order of magnitude higher than those of any prior copper-catalyzed coupling of aryl bromides and chlorides. This ligand also led to copper systems that catalyze the coupling of aryl chlorides with phenols and the coupling of aryl bromides and iodides with primary benzylic and aliphatic alcohols. A wide variety of functional groups including nitriles, halides, ethers, ketones, amines, esters, amides, vinylarenes, alcohols and boronic acid esters were tolerated, and reactions occurred with aryl bromides in pharmaceutically related structures.
